Taonga & Aroha Hearts - Set of Two Porcelain Wall Art Pieces

$67.00 NZD

Two hearts, two expressions of aroha, brought together in one beautiful handcrafted set.

This pair of porcelain hearts combines our richly detailed Taonga design with a smaller, simpler heart featuring the word aroha, framed between two flowing koru forms.

The larger heart brings together a collection of forms inspired by Aotearoa. Kōwhai leaves, a double Pikorua, Matau and several interpretations of the koru, including the sweeping form of an unfurling silver fern frond, sit together around the word aroha. It's a design filled with references to New Zealand's natural world, connection, growth and love.

Its smaller companion puts aroha at the centre. The Māori word for love is framed by two stylised koru, their spiral forms inspired by the unfurling fronds of our native ferns and widely associated with new life, growth and renewal.

Together, the two hearts make a lovely pairing. Their shared red and white palette ties them together, while the contrast between the intricate Taonga design and the simplicity of the smaller Aroha heart allows each piece to have its own character.

We handcraft both hearts here in Hawke's Bay using our own porcelain clay recipe, blended with New Zealand kaolin. After glazing, the artwork is applied using ceramic transfers made from our original designs. These aren't commercially available transfers - they're produced especially for our artwork - before each heart is fired again to permanently fuse the decoration to the glaze.

The large Taonga heart measures approximately 16 cm high x 13 cm wide, while the smaller Aroha heart measures approximately 13 cm high x 10 cm wide. Display them together as a pair, or give each one its own special place.

Each heart has a wire loop permanently embedded into the back of the porcelain, ready for hanging.

Set includes

  • 1 small Aroha & Koru porcelain heart - approximately 13 cm high x 10 cm wide
  • White glazed porcelain with rich red decoration

  • Embedded wire loop on each heart for hanging

About these designs: Taonga and Aroha & Koru are original JS Ceramics designs by Jen in Te Puke. After Jen stepped away from ceramics, Bright Side Ceramics, our ceramics brand here at Dee's Bees, acquired the collection so these distinctive New Zealand designs could continue to be made. Today we handcraft them in Hawke's Bay as part of our Land and Sea Collection.
