The great curve of Hawke's Bay is associated with Māui's hook and the name \u003cstrong data-start=\"4851\" data-end=\"4870\"\u003eTe Matau-a-Māui\u003c\/strong\u003e, making Matau particularly at home as part of our Land and Sea Collection.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp dir=\"auto\" data-start=\"4947\" data-end=\"5210\"\u003eWe handcraft each Matau using our own porcelain clay recipe, blended here with New Zealand kaolin. Our own green glaze settles deeply into the sweeping spiral and recessed decoration, while becoming lighter over the raised surfaces to emphasise the sculpted form.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp dir=\"auto\" data-start=\"5212\" data-end=\"5435\"\u003eIt took almost 40 glaze tests to develop the finish we wanted for these pieces.
